"Un havre de paix sur le chemin de Compostelle"There were 7 of us as a family. We spent 3 very pleasant days in Mr. VAN DER VELDE's cottage.
The area is quiet and relaxing. The Fisherman's House at number 28 is picturesque.
The entrance courtyard is charming. A screen of greenery isolates it from the street and neighbors. In June, a superb lilac, a honeysuckle and lavender perfume the main access staircase.
You quickly feel at home.
The interior is very spacious and welcoming. The rooms are intelligently distributed. Everyone was able to find their own corner. Doors and stairs, numerous, facilitate movement throughout the house. This is important when you are together with 7 people.
On the ground floor, a huge living room with a perfectly equipped kitchen and a very large table. We enjoyed being there all together. It was so nice that we didn't even feel the need to go next door to the living room, which was also very large.
A small adjoining room with a view of the landscape and the river served as my office. It was perfect.
Upstairs, the bedrooms are very bright.
A long garden, with no direct view of the neighbours, leads to the river bank through a gate. The view of the Saint-Père bridge is splendid. It would not have displeased impressionist painters like Sisley.
My whole family is delighted with their stay in this "Fisherman's House". It was a haven of peace for everyone, returning from our hikes on the Camino de Santiago. It passes in front of the cottage.
Thanks to Mr. VAN DER VELDE for his cordiality. We keep the address.
