Petit Pessel – Romantic hideaway amidst trees & flowers
Charming gite in peaceful countryside
The owners, Alan and Christine, were very welcoming on arrival setting the tone for our stay. The property was spotlessly clean, and thoughtful details included such as wine, milk, butter, bread and orange juice, tea and coffee, and olive oil, garlic and herbs for cooking. Pessel is very peaceful and is surrounded by beautiful woodland, so perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. We didn’t need to venture far from the gite to see pine martins, deer, hoopoe, black kites, fire crests, short toed eagles and too many species of butterfly to list. Alan and Christine were very helpful and charming and I wouldn’t hestitate to recommend Pessel to any nature lovers wanting to get away from it all. Sarah & Per

spend some refreshing, revitalizing time
in one of the most stunning parts of the world, at the heart of an area renowned for its rich history and pre-history. Our holiday homes ‘Les Maisons de Pessel’ are nestled in the beautiful, verdant 6,000 hectare Forêt de la Bessède, an ancient area of notable bio-diversity in the acclaimed ‘Périgord Noir’ region of South West France.
Famed for gastronomy, architecture, art and culture, the Périgord Noir and Les Maisons de Pessel offer a perfect setting with exceptional scenery and quality facilities for your holiday. Whether you seek peace and quiet, outdoor activities or cultural outings, your needs can be met, all accompanied by delicious local food and drink prepared with flair in the area’s charming restaurants and bars, or you can visit the regional producers’ markets and practice your culinary skills in the well equipped kitchen of your comfortably appointed holiday home.
In a peaceful setting at the end of a secluded, tree-lined lane, Domaine de Pessel, the estate where our holiday cottages are situated is surrounded by over 60 acres of delightful grounds, consisting of lawns, a walnut grove, meadows, wild flowers, a stream and unspoilt woodland, including acacia and sweet chestnut trees and succulent figs in season. There is abundant wildlife ranging from deer, wild boar and red squirrels to stunning birds such as golden orioles and hoopoes, and in season, many colourful butterflies, and an array of wild orchids and lush ferns.
Our cottages are in the tiny hamlet – a ‘lieu-dit’ in French – of Pessel, close to Urval in the Perigord Noir
We have two Cottages available for holiday rentals –
Grand Pessel and Petit Pessel.
These are traditional ‘Perigourdine’ buildings, idyllically nestling amongst trees and plants alongside the walnut grove. They are tastefully and carefully restored, with modern kitchens and bathrooms, and the thick walls and good insulation mean they remain cool in hot summer weather, and cosy in cooler seasons.
Grand Pessel is our larger cottage; it’s a detached 18th century building in Perigourdine style, with a barn (currently used for storing furniture and tools) on one side. There is a garden, parking, shade, it’s spacious, well-equipped and sympathetically modernised with a smart kitchen and shower room, and sleeps up to 5 people in 2 bedrooms.
Petit Pessel is our ‘Fairytale’ cottage which reminds many guests of a Hobbit house with its own little tower or former ‘pigeonnier’.
Petit Pessel is well-equipped, with one bedroom sleeping 2 people, a modern shower room, and spacious well-furnished living room with kitchen and dining areas.
There’s a pretty garden, terrace, calm and tranquillity, and lots of lovely trees, birdsong, plus some splendid views.
We do not allow pets of any kind in any of the properties.
The WiFi is via mobile internet, and limited to 20GB per week per gite. In our rural surroundings, there is no fibre: so our internet is not suitable for downloading films, gaming or business purposes.
