In 1732 AD, a farmer from Crestet obtained the exclusive right to use the waters of the Charambaud spring.
Since then, “La Fontaine de Charambaud” has prospered.
In 2001, this former wine estate acquired a new function: that of welcoming its guests for a pleasant stay within its centuries-old walls.
Living room and kitchen
The Rossignol apartment is located in the oldest part of the 17th century building and is wheelchair accessible. The “French” beamed ceiling and the monumental fireplace bear witness to this. In the living room you will find a large sofa, two armchairs and enough floor lamps for comfortable reading. The dining table with six chairs invites you to enjoy delicious Provençal cuisine. Prepare your meals in the charming kitchen under its vaulted ceiling. This kitchen is modern and fully equipped with for example dishwasher, washing machine, combi oven and espresso machine. Several modifications are possible to further increase the comfort of wheelchair users.
Bedrooms and bathroom
There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed (160 x 200) and one with twin beds (80 x 200) which can be made separately or together. Their windows overlook the south terrace and the garden. In a bedroom, you can admire the same "French-style" ceiling as in the living room. There are 2 bathrooms: a small one with a shower, sink and WC. The other is accessible to wheelchair users and has a flat floor shower, toilet and sink.
Garden and terrace
There are two terraces, one to the south of the house, adjoining your garden, the other to the east, adjacent to the courtyard. The garden itself - 20 x 20 meters - with its large lawn is ideal for bowling or badminton.
Today, the property is divided into three independent, spacious and comfortable apartments, called respectively "le Hibou" (the owl, symbol of wisdom), "le Martinet" (the swallow, symbol of freedom) and "le Rossignol" (the nightingale, symbol of magic).
Each of them has a surface area of approximately 85 m² and is furnished for 4 or 5 people.
You can enjoy modern features like dishwashers, microwaves, or high-speed Internet, while admiring everything that has remained the same, like the "French-style" beamed ceilings, the sound of the fountain in the courtyard or the breathtaking beauty of the view of Mont Ventoux.
Around the house, well-maintained land of 10,000 m² is at your disposal.
The vineyards have not all disappeared. However, spacious lawns have been created so that you can relax in the shade of cherry or peach trees, play badminton or football, or admire the butterflies around the lavender.
From your apartment, the heated swimming pool is a few steps away, size 13 x 7 m + part step 1.5 x 3 m. Around the pool you will find sun loungers and parasols. The cherry trees also offer a splendid place in the shade. Near the swimming pool, you will find the pétanque court, trampoline, swings and a slide for the little ones.
Area
35 km east of the Rhône in the upper part of Provence, our fortified farm Fontaine de Charambaud is located in Crestet, just 3 km south of Vaison-la-Romaine in the French department of Vaucluse. You will find green countryside bordered to the west by the rocky Dentelles de Montmirail (734m) and to the east by the Pre-Alps, with Mont Ventoux dominating at a height of 1907 m visible from the property.
This valley has a very mild climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year with a long summer offering comfortable average temperatures between 25 (May, September) up to 32°C (July and August).
Le Crestet (pop. 440) is a small historic medieval protected hilltop village. Surrounded by vineyards, olive and almond trees, it has many small streets with beautiful architecture. At the top of the village is a small castle with a square which offers stunning views of the valley, Mont Ventoux and the Crestet valley. La Fontaine de Charambaud is located a few hundred meters east of the village center at the foot of the hill. Crestet has 3 restaurants, one 300 m away.
