Prehistory, omnipresent, has left a number of sites, caves and ornate shelters, cluzeaux ... and history, an endless variety of bastides and villages, some classified among the beautiful of France, such as Saint-Jean-de-Côle located 4 km, many museums, such as Sorges and its ecomuseum of the truffle.
Its many castles dot the region, including the Château de Puyghuilem where the film "Le pacte des loups" was shot, the Abbey of Boschaud, the caves of Villars with its cave paintings 7 km away.
The site of Brantôme "the Venice of Périgord" has been inhabited at least since the Neolithic period, as the presence of the Pierre Levée dolmen indicates.
The abbey was probably founded under Pepin the Short in 769, although this foundation is often attributed to Charlemagne who deposited there relics of Saint Sicaire.
The church was consecrated by Pope Leo III in 804.
