The house:
You will stay in the recently renovated and converted tobacco drying barn of our 17th century house in typical Perigourdine style. During the renovation we kept as many authentic elements as possible and added modern comfort like roof insulation and double glazing.
This 2-persons gite has its own parking space with entrance, and both terrace and garden are private.
The gite has a 25m² living kitchen with built-in appliances (induction hob, oven, fridge), dining area and sitting area. In this room you have satellite TV with DVD player, and free internet (wifi as well as fixed connection is possible). Thanks to the electric heating, the cottage is pleasant and comfortable even in the cold season.
The modern bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower, a hanging toilet and a vanity unit.
The bedroom (20 m²) with double bed is very quiet and attractive due to the use of natural materials. The wardrobe and clothes rack allow you to neatly store and hang out your clothes.
From the terrace and garden there is a sublime view of the Dordogne valley with its Château des Milandes. The castle where Josephine Baker lived a large part of her life. With the garden furniture and deck chairs there is a choice to enjoy the sun as well as the shade, for example under the old cherry tree.
Surroundings:
Our gite is situated in the valley of the 5 castles, near Sarlat, in the Périgord Noir. A green wooded rural area with sloping hills and medieval villages. There is plenty to see, do and enjoy here.
Walk through the walnut orchards, cool down in the Dordogne river, see the valley from a hot air balloon, or enjoy the atmosphere at one of the many terraces. Then there are the castles, the gardens and the markets.
Restaurants, food & wine:
Markets:
- Marché Gourmand, every Monday evening in July and August within walking distance of the gite. Enjoy a delicious meal at la Boutique du Bois d'Envaux.
- Sunday, market in Saint-Cyprien, always a busy food and goods market.
Many nice restaurants in the area a.o:
- Restaurant Le Gabarrier, Allas-les-Mines, with terrace on the banks of the Dordogne
- Restaurant Au Chalet Gourmand, Vezac, with view on Château de Castelnaud
- Restaurant La Table de Monrecour, Saint-Vincent de Cosse, eating in a castle (visible from the terrace of our gite)
Activities:
Our gite is an excellent starting point to discover the Valley of the 5 Castles. Four of these castles are open to the public and all within fifteen minutes:
- Château des Milandes
- Château de Castelnaud
- Château et jardins de Marqueyssac
- Château de Beynac
In addition, there are 2 museums at about 10 minutes distance:

- Musée La Rue du Temps qui Passe, Allas-las-Mines, heritage museum with reconstructed shops from the beginning of the last century
There are many walking routes in the area. The boucle of Lapeyre (Veyrines de Domme) passes by the gite and is an excellent opportunity to explore the surrounding area on foot.
Other outdoor activities in the area are:
Cycling, Canoeing/Kayaking, Stand up paddle, Round trip Dordogne, Accrobranche, Via Ferrata, Golf, Electric buggy/electric scooter ride, Ballooning.
Additional information on these activities is available in the house folder in the gite.
The gite is offered for rent during all seasons, so the whole year. We prefer to rent per week, with arrival on Saturday. Shorter rentals with other days of arrival and departure are possible.
