The museum was created by Baron Napoleon Gourgaud. Great hunter, he organized expeditions with a friend in Africa. During these hunts, he killed many animals that naturalization later the most famous taxidermist of the time. In order to present them in a reminiscent of their home country, he commanded a landscape painter, several dioramas depicting the fauna and landscapes of East Africa.
