The Modern Art Museum of Troyes is housed in a former Episcopal Palace of the sixteenth century.
It includes a sumptuous collection of the greatest moments of artistic French, rich signatures of the greatest nineteenth to early twentieth century (Courbet, Derain, Vlaminck, Braque, de Stael, etc.)..
- 1976: It was during an official ceremony at the Hotel de Ville of Troyes (in November), Peter and Denise Levy donated to the state of their art collection. Large textile manufacturers trojan, they wanted their donation to take place in their adopted city.
The collection - which is, at the time, one of the largest donations received by the National Museums (about 2 000 works: paintings, drawings, sculptures, tapestries, ceramics and glass) embraces most of the major aesthetic trends which spoke to about 1850 to 1950.
It also works of art "primitive", mostly in Africa and some of Oceania.
- 1982: On 20 October, the museum was inaugurated in the presence of President of the Republic.
