Les Marais Salants

This is the twelfth century, the arrival of monks Vendée on the island that began the exploitation of salt marshes and for centuries, salt was the vine with one of the main wealth of the island.
In the nineteenth century the salt workers were more than 1000 today it is 85, growing their marshes to harvest white gold.
When the sun goes down on the horizon marshes come alive, and simoussi souvron hand, the salt makers harvest the delicate fleur de sel. They say it has the smell of the violet and pink, contrasts with the coarse salt, colored by the clay of the marsh.
