Designed by architect Emile Dubuisson, City Hall is the grand scale of its dimensions and the ingenuity of his plan. Built from 1924 to 1932 under President Roger Salengro, it combines the heritage of local traditions (triangular gables, polychromy, mullioned openings or basket-handle) and modernity through the use of concrete for the structure and decor . The building is organized around a gallery 143 feet long, divided into three naves by two sets of columns with Art Nouveau motifs. More generally, the outline of the décor have Art Deco accents. A beautiful collection of contemporary art adorns the staircase, corridors and municipal halls. A fresco by the Icelandic artist Erro tells the form of comic's turbulent history of the city. The belfry was built between 1929 and 1931, and inaugurated in 1932. This is the first French ship of over 100 meters made ​​entirely of reinforced concrete. With 104 meters is the highest bell tower in the region. Designed as a "skyscraper in Flanders," it is both a symbol of communal liberties and a landmark for the entire city of Lille. At its base are carved the giant founders of the city, and Lydéric Phinaert. It is a World Heritage by UNESCO in September 2005, with 22 other belfries in the north of France.
