Gold Beach - plage du débarquement de Normandie

Gold Beach was one of five landing beaches of Normandy June 6, 1944. Approximately 25,000 men were landed on D-Day, there were 413 deaths (1.7% of men landed). The beach, entrusted to the British (30th corps) was thus conquered without much difficulty. It was divided into four sectors: Item, Jig, King and How but it was not used. The targets were largely met, against a German attack was even extended to 16:30.

In Gold and Juno, the three objectives of the Anglo-Canadian army is to take Bayeux, to block the main axis Bayeux-Caen any German tank and unite with the Americans in Port-en-Bessin. On the evening of 6, the British have almost met their goals with a bridgehead 9 km wide and as deep. Bayeux has not yet been taken but abandoned by the German occupiers. On June 7, in the late morning, it will be the first sub-prefecture French and released intact. On June 8, Port-en-Bessin is transformed into oil port.
