Created by the Academy Florimonane, itself founded by St. Francis de Sales and the lawyer Antoine Favre, father of Vaugelas, the museum is housed in the medieval castle of Montrottier. The latter was the home of a great collector, Leo Mares. It presents a very attractive aesthetic of accumulation specific to these enthusiasts heritage, eclectic and important collections of arms and armor, a collection of religious objects, bronze bas reliefs of Peter and his son Hans Vischer (founders of the sixteenth century), originally intended as an ornament of the funeral chapel of the Fugger, sets of furniture, porcelain and objects of the world (Africa, East ...). It also contains the library of 8,000 volumes of the Academy Florimontane.
