Built on the site of a Gothic castle which is nothing left, to the years from 1565, this castle nicknamed "the Versailles of the Languedoc" is a masterpiece of the Renaissance. Still remains much of the original building, including a large room of 32m in length, called Hall of the Estates General of Languedoc. The castle is surrounded by French gardens are the work of the royal gardener Le Nôtre. The castle was supplied with water via the aqueduct of Castries, specially designed for this purpose by Pierre-Paul Riquet. Bought by René de Castries in 1935, the castle was owned since 1985 of the French Academy, following the donation of Duke de Castries.

It is now used for cultural events point and closed to the public. It is possible to visit it regularly during Heritage Days.
