Château de Biron

The castle is located in the valley of the Lede, in the Dordogne. It was the seat of one of the four baronies of Périgord, with Beynac, Mareuil and Bourdeilles. It is owned by the family of Gontaut-Biron who acquires by marriage the barony of Biron in the twelfth century, before being taken by the Albigensians in 1211 by Simon IV de Montfort in 1212, the English and the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. It is erected into a duchy-peerage in 1598.

The twelfth to the eighteenth century, each century has left its mark, referring to the vicissitudes of this monumental building:
• keep the twelfth century,
• Chapel dual-stage,
• apartments of the Renaissance,
• impressive vaulted kitchens,
• Hall of States.
Of this incredible juxtaposition of buildings results in a unique architectural ensemble, a special appeal.

In 1978, the department acquired the castle in order to restore it. In 1994 this is where we shot the film La Fille de D'Artagnan, with Sophie Marceau and Philippe Noiret.
