The abbey was built in the twelfth and thirteenth century on the site of an ancient pagan temple. Archaeological excavations undertaken in 1981 revealed the presence of a Gallic fanum the late first century BC. BC and a Christian funeral chapel of the seventh century.

However, it was preceded by the eleventh century by Raoul wanted a college Fitzgerald Chamberlain, Chamberlain of the Duke of Normandy. The choice of Raoul creating a college of canons may be due to Boscherville "presumably because his ancestors were based in the small chapel of St. George located on the grounds of [their] mansion."

His son William of Tankerville undertakes to replace it with a Benedictine abbey, after "expelled the canons." The year 1113 saw the arrival of Benedictine monks from the abbey of Saint-Évroult (Orne), replacing the canons.

In 1235, the vault of the nave roof is replaced by a Gothic vault of stone. By 1250, the abbey has 24 monks, plus six other priories, no longer respects the rule.

During the Wars of Religion, the abbey was sacked three times by the Huguenots in 1562, in 1570 (chapter house) and 1590 (home of the Abbot).

In 1659 the abbey was reformed by Maurists. In 1690, the Maurists edify the convent buildings.

During the Revolution, the municipality of Saint-Martin-de-Boscherville decides to use the abbey church Saint-Georges for worship, the Church of St. Martin was considered too small and eccentric.

When working in the chapter house in 1978, was found a beautiful butt of Abbot brass engraved and stamped, from the early thirteenth century.
