The abbey was founded Valasse of the twelfth century after a double vow made by Waleran of Meulan and Empress Matilda, daughter of William the Conqueror.

This period, date beautiful rooms of the early Norman Gothic capitals who survived the successive transformations.

Currently, the Abbey has a classical facade and a landscaped garden, designed by Pierre Adrien Paris.

Since 1984, it is owned by the municipality of-the-Gruchet Valasse which has continued to restore it with the help of the State of the Region and the Department, and was able to host ceremonies, entertainment cultural exhibitions, concerts, lectures and various performances.

A major project management of the entire park and the abbey was established by local authorities, "EANA, Terre des Possibles", which will be launched in spring 2008.
