This is a fully equipped apartment in the heart of the medieval village of Belvès.
The apartment can accommodate 4 people and is available from May to October with a 3 night minimum in July and August. Baby bed available on request.
Freshly cooked continental breakfast is available next door with Planche et Plonk, fabulous restaurants on your doorstep, free parking available 2 minutes walk away.
We provide you with an equipped kitchen (fridge, oven, electric hob, dishwasher, coffee machine, washing machine, pots, pans, cutlery, etc.), rooms with parental beds of 140 (possibility of travel cot on request), and bathroom with shower.
WiFi box available, sheets, shower towels provided, and pets accepted on request.
At your disposal several shops such as bakeries, mini-supermarket, butcher, grocery store, hairdresser, post office as well as several bars and restaurants.
Most of the shops are located on the picturesque main street which leads to the covered medieval market square, the central point of the village.
Don't miss the Saturday morning food and craft market.
Grab a coffee at one of the cafes around the square and watch locals and visitors come and go.
The square also hosts the "Marché Gourmand" on Wednesday evenings, with background sounds of French music and the smells of freshly prepared food, including regional specialties.
Bring your own cutlery, plates and glasses to fully enjoy the experience.
As you climb towards the market square, you will go inside the village walls and come across the troglodyte caves - a visit for another day.
Belvès is ideally located in the region as it is equidistant from Sarlat and Bergerac, the two largest towns in the region. Both are well worth a visit. Their old centers are wonderful settings for more upscale restaurants and shops. Traveling to any of these towns along the Dordogne is a pleasure, as you can admire the sights of the area: the region's ancient castles, many of which date back to the 100 Years' War between England and France. Yes, some of these castles are English. Built on opposite sides of the valley, you can imagine the situation.
A visit to Castelnaud will show you some of the weapons used and a visit to Beynac will demonstrate its imposing position. These are far from the only important or interesting buildings in the region: Marqueyssac, Milandes, Biron, Cadouin Abbey are all worth a visit.
The war also led to the development of fortified towns in the region. They were built on sites with natural defensive positions, then built according to a plan. They are known as bastides and were originally developed by the English (if you call Henry 2 English). There are many, but the best examples are probably Domme and Monpazier, both about 20 minutes' drive away.
Belvès is also in an ideal position for sporting activities. The Dordogne is not the only river, nor necessarily the most important. The Vezère joins the Dordogne at the very pretty place of Limeuil. Canoeing and kayaking is available on both rivers, as well as boat trips. The ideal conditions around the Vézère allowed man to settle around 40,000 years ago and evidence of his existence is still visible in Les Eyzies. Fortunately, some of these conditions also prevented further industrialization. The rivers are wide, but they are also shallow and even have an occasional beach. Perhaps this is why the area is so unspoiled and a great place to spend your vacation: ideal for hiking, cycling, horse riding, golfing or just relaxing.
